BANS (Build a Niche Store)
If you're new here, why not subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I have been *wanting* to buy BANS (an automated system for building a complete website around Ebay), but have decided to wait until after I get more Christmas shopping done.
I had domains to renew and other things to get out of the way as well, so it felt like the right thing to do. It is killing me to wait.. Not that I am known for being impatient or anything ;)
My friend, Shannon, just started using BANS and she is blogging about it on her blog. Today she got through installation and set up. It looks easy enough to use and we all know how I am a sucker for easy, considering I am technology challenged in the worst of ways.
I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions if you are already using it!
Review of Steady Niche ~ Part 1 Installation
Author: Retta, Owner of Easy WAHM Websites
I recently purchased a license for Steady Niche, a quick and easy niche site building php script. It auto generates all the pages and you just fill in your desired keywords, title tags, and add your affiliate information like Adsense publisher code, and Ebay PID.
So, step one after buying the license. Installation. I have two hosting accounts, and I had two Wii themed domain names. So I figured one in each account was a good plan. The first hosting account is basically a GoDaddy reseller. I have read that there are problems running certain php based programs on GoDaddy hosting if you have the low level account, but I have a Deluxe account so I figured I was safe. You know what they say about assuming. Yeah, it didn’t go as planned. I’m working with my host to get this figured and get the IonLoaders working properly, whatever those are. http://wiipartyaccessories.com/ this is the current result;

Not very sexy is it? Yeah wasn’t real thrilled with that and I don’t have the php knowledge to figure out how to fix the problems … but I think it has something to do with the hosting type. Hopefully working with the host I can get it working on that domain name.
Onto the second installation on my other hosting account, which is a Host Gator hosting account. This went smoothly. I uploaded everything via ftp and it worked on the first try. All I had to do was edit the config.php file to tweak the keywords and add my Adsense pub ID. There were no problems at all getting things uploaded on this hosting. You do need to make sure you ftp in Binary mode (which seems to be the default, I had never noticed before now though.) http://www.bestwiidownloads.com Here is how this one is looking right now.

Much better, and fully functioning except for the Products page which seems to be pulling an error. I’ve asked for some help with that over at the Steady Niche member’s area since other folks seem to be having the same problem as well.
Stay tuned for more about this interesting niche site building program. In Part 2 We’ll talk about customization … as soon as I figure that part out -lol-

Website Content Wizard Affiliate Program
Back in October I wrote a post about Website Content Wizard. Overall the program itself seems to be okay, although I admit I haven’t used it as much as I would like.
However, I chose to remove any affiliate links to Website Content Wizard. I personally do not like the way the affiliate program is handled and after reading the Inner Circle - Private Forums, others have been disappointed as well.
I made a couple sales and was awaiting payment. I wrote the Admin on the forum (who was helpful) and he informed me that I may not have received payment because the products most likely were refunded and the system wouldn’t show that.
As an affiliate, this makes me uncomfortable and says to me there is poor tracking software and no real way to know whether or not sales were actually refunded. I am supposed to take their word for it. I am not saying they are dishonest, but I felt it was best to remove any affiliate links. Others seem to share the same feelings spread out over the past few months, so its not just me.
It’s a shame really because I did make a few sales. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Ziggy Web Hosting
I recently closed two Ziggy Hosting accounts and moved them to Host Gator after having too much downtime.
The saying, “You get what you pay for” was definitely true in this instance. While I didn’t use Ziggy Hosting for my main sites I did have a few blogs on their server that was consistently down. And I don’t mean down for a few hours or even a day - we are talking upwards of four and five days at a time.
While transfering my blogs from Ziggy Host to Host Gator I encountered a couple minor problems. Strange characters such as †started displaying on all the posts . Thankfully I found an easy solution to the problem at My Digital Life - Thank you!
Basically to fix the problem you have to modify the code located in the wp-confige.php file.
define(’DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8′);
define(’DB_COLLATE’, ”);
change to
define(’DB_CHARSET’, ”);
define(’DB_COLLATE’, ”);
After modifying the code, the problem went away but created another. Which after some searching I realized was caused by a blank line at the end of the file. After taking out the blank lines, I finally had a fully functioning blog on a shiny new server and have been happy ever since. I love simple solutions being that I am technologically challenged and all ;)
