Take Cover, She’s Goin In…

My main site is almost 4 years old. If it could talk it would have many stories to tell you. The past year I have started to hate it. I mean hate it so much that I would go to work on it and find myself procrastinating and never touching it. The thought of it makes me sick and makes my head hurt. My head hurts now just writing this.
The only reason I really have for hating it so much is that it overwhelms me so I end up ignoring it and the cycle of procrastination and 30 open projects begins again. The thing is - the site has a lot of *potential* to earn a lot more money, it just needs LOTS of TLC. The design is old and outdated and so is the structure but there is good solid content and Google LOVES this site (knock on wood). You would think that would inspire me to work on it but it is a mental block of sorts at this point.
Today I decided, enough of that. No more procrastinating and it must be dealt with. I am jumping in and my head hurts already but it can’t be procrastinated any longer. I just get frustrated when I think about it. I work on 50 different things at a time literally but the one project, with the most potential well hell thats the one she ignores. I know, I know,I am ass backwards.
Restructuring a site and waiting 6-8 weeks for Google to sort it out is a hell of a lot easier than starting a brand new site and waiting for it to rank. And so it begins… I am fixing the site and making it better. It’s going to be my money maker! Let’s hope the site still loves me and appreciates the love.
I am sure I will have lots of frustration to share. Starting with the fact that over 400 pages need to be switched out and fixed. But it will be worth it in the end, I know it will. But of course, there are no guarantees in this wonderful industry we are in.
Sugarrae Interviews Josh Siegel of YPN
Sugarrae scored a Q&A with YPN’s Josh Seigel. It’s a must read if you have any questions about the YPN Beta Program.
“Rae: What types of sites does YPN value most in their publisher network? Do those types of sites get more customization options, better payouts or other benefits? Do you see yourself creating a program for “elite” publishers in the future? ”
Rant - Stolen Content
[Start of Rant]
My main site is constantly having a problem of some sort - seriously. I try to be a champ about it but it is really very *frustrating* to say the least. Last year it was hacked not once but two times. I have lost all my rankings but luckily come back… and so the story goes.
Yesterday, I was reading at Webmaster World about hijacked links and I went and tried the inurl:www.sitename.com command which allows you to see everyone with your url as part of their url. And there is was my entire site on their domain but of course using their Adsense. Typical and all too common and damn frustrating too.
So now I need to send a C&D, contact Google and all that jazz. My very good friend Suggarrae has some good links for dealing with stolen content issues that is most helpful. Major pain in the butt…
